Ancient and very noble Sicilian family, of Spanish origin, which spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. Known as Cannizzo or Canizzaro, this illustrious family took its name from the feud of Cannizzo, in Gascony. In fact, it is handed down that it descends from Arnaldo, flourishing in Spain in 1170, who as lord of Cannizzo made himself known, and so did his descendants, de Cannizzo, de Cannizzariis, Cannizzaro or Canizzaro. Resplendent in Spain, the lineage passed to Sicily at the time of King Peter I of Aragon, with a Thomas, branching out over time in many cities of the island and enjoying nobility everywhere.
