El origen y origen de la Casa Canobbia Bolognese proviene del Canobij de Milán, es decir, de aquellos que eran maestros del feudo Canobbia colocado en d. Estado y hoy en día es propiedad de los señores borromeos. Ambrogio Canobbi propietario de d. feudo tuvo dos hijos, y Giovan Francesco y Bartolomeo. El primero fue un hombre de muchas letras de valor y bondad de vida, por lo que fue hecho obispo de Forlì y por el Papa fue empleado en muchos cargos muy serios, recolector del botín en Portugal. Nuncio en Polonia y últimamente en Fiorenza, quien ocupó el cargo durante muchos años y estaba muy agradecido con el Papa y el Gran Duque Francesco. El abad Ughelli en el cuento de los obispos de Forlì en su "Italia sagrada" en el n. 51, así dice: Joannes Franciscus Mazza de Canobio Bononiensis filus Ambrosij eb spoliorum Collectore en Lusitania,
