Originaria di Francia e trapiantata in Italia nel 1264 da un Giacomo venuto a rappressentare Carlo d'Angiò nel Senato Romano, e da cui nel 1269 ebbe i feudi di Popoli col titolo comitale, di Alvito e di Sora. Rostaino nel 1292 capitano di Napoli, governatore di Capitanata e di Abruzzo, portò il titolo di Duca di Terranuova. Per ragione di matrimonio Rostaino II fu Principe di Pettorano; Giacomo Giustiziere nell'Abruzzo nel 1295, e nel 1343 Vicario del Re Roberto in Firenze. Giovanni nel 1335 fu creato Conte di Bovino, e si segnalò nelle lotte coi Ghibellini animati dal valore di Castruccio. Berlinghieri ebbe la contea di Archi nell'Abruzzo; e Pier-Paolo per privilegio del Re Alfonso ottenne nel 1454 il titolo di Duca di Sora e di Olvito; Alfonso ebbe il ducato di Ortona.
