Esta familia, llamada Capani o Capano, es originaria de Cilento, donde se encuentran recuerdos de ella desde la época de Enrique VI. Disfrutó de la nobleza en las ciudades de Nápoles en la sede de Nido, Salerno en la sede de Portaretese, S. Pietro in Galatina y en Cilento. Una rama de los Capani o Capano se extinguió en sus hermanos Alfonso y Pietro que fueron asesinados por ladrones, en su propia casa ubicada cerca de la Iglesia de San Severino. Tenían dos hermanas casadas, una de la familia Muscettola, la otra de la familia Gaeta, y eran dueños de la linterna del Molo, que luego fue comprada por el Ministro Acton en nombre del Gobierno.
