Antica famiglia romana, tra le più nobili della città eterna, un cui importante ramo si trapiantò in Napoli, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Come evincesi da numerosi testi, la famiglia Caparelli e Caffarelli sono in realtà la medesima prosapia. Nella celebre opera di Domenico Conforto "Discorsi postumi del signor Carlo De Lellis di alcune poche nobili Famiglie con l’Annotazione in esse, e Supplimento di altri discorsi genealogici di Famiglie Nobili della Città e Regno di Napoli", pubblicato a Napoli nel 1701, vi è un ampio capitolo intitolato proprio "DELLA FAMIGLIA CAFFARELLI DETTA CAPARELLI". In ogni modo, i membri di tal famiglia fanno risalire le proprie origini alla gens Juvenalia, annoverando tra i loro componenti papa Adeodato II. Il primo personaggio documentato ad usare questo cognome fu Stefano Capharellus, fiorito sul calare del secolo XII, in qualità di Senatore di Roma; da allora la famiglia venne annoverata

Cafarelli, Caffarelli o Caparelli di Roma. Citato in "Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane estinte e fiorenti" vol.I, pag. 193, compilato dal Comm. G.B. di Crollalanza, edito presso la direzione del giornale araldico, Pisa 1888.
