Al dir di alcuni autori, questa antica ed illustre famiglia discende da Capi Troiano. Tuttavia, le antiche memorie mostrano che i Capeca, in origine, si chiamavano Cacapece, per lo che cade lo asserto di quelli autori. Questa famiglia ebbe origine in Sorrento nel 1040. Marino Capeca, fratello di Corrado, vicerè di Sicilia, passò in Napoli, al tempo di re Manfredi. Questa famiglia, avendo parteggiato sempre per re Manfredi, fu perseguitata dagli Angioini, in modo che molti individui di essa fuggirono: alcuni in Dalmazia, altri in Sicilia ed altri, ancora, in Sorrento. Dopo qualche tempo, riappacificatisi i rapporti con i Reali d'Angiò, ritornarono e furono rimessi nel possesso delle ricchezze e dei feudi dei quali erano stati spogliati.
