La famiglia Capellari di Belluno è antica e venne aggregata alla nobiltà ed al Consiglio Bellunese nel 1670. L'imperatore d'Austria con risoluzione del 28 febbraio 1821 confermò la nobiltà dei Capellari, i quali si erano distinti nelle pubbliche cariche ed avevano prodotto vari uomini di merito fra i quali Michele (dec. 1669), letterato e segretario della celebre regina Cristina di Svezia. La gloria maggiore di questa famiglia è l'aver dato un Sommo pontefice, Mauro Capellari,che prese il nome di Gregorio XVI. Furono ascritti alla nobiltà romana con Senatus Consulto del 20 giugno 1831. Giovan Antonio Capellari della Colomba, nipote del Papa, fu Gran priore dell'Ordine di Malta nel gran priorato Lombardo-Veneto. Altro ramo. Famiglia di antica e nobile tradizione, di cui non si hanno notizie certe sulle sue origini. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili
