Se cree que la familia milanesa desciende de la antiguamente llamada "da Intimiano", un nombre derivado de un castillo del mismo nombre propiedad de ella en Como. El nuevo nombre se habría tomado cuando Girardo o Gariardo, sobrino de Eriberto d'Intimiano, arzobispo de Milán. quien tomó posesión de la corte y la parroquia de Arzago. Contaba con muchas ilustres personalidades, entre ellas: Jerónimo obispo de Niza y gran limosna de Catalina de Médicis, reina de Francia, en 1544; Francesco, teniente general y gobernador de Milán en 1624, entonces gobernador de Génova. La familia se dividió en dos ramas: la que descendía de Paolo y la de Antonio, ambos reconocidos como nobles por el Tribunal Heráldico del IR de Milán en 1771 y 1770, respectivamente. a Constantino, de José, de Luigi. Con el Decreto Ministerial del 4 de diciembre de 1896, la nobleza también fue reconocida a la rama que descendía
