Antigua y patricia familia Oriunda de Sillalvengo, llamada Capitaneo o Capitanei y, más antiguamente, Capitaneus, Captaneus, Cataneus y Cattaneo. En el siglo XVI, Guarino C. siguió a Isabel de Aragón hasta Bari y estableció su hogar en Modugno. Guarino puede considerarse el progenitor de esta casa que se agregó a la nobleza de este país. Dicho Guarino, un castellano de Bari, acompañó a Bona Sforza con otros caballeros como el prometido del rey Segismundo de Polonia, quien lo recompensó con un diploma del 18 de abril de 1518 del título de caballero de la Orden de la Milicia Dorada; también el emperador Carlos V, con un diploma fechado el 31 de diciembre de 1554, lo nombró nuevamente caballero de la Milicia Aurata extendiendo el privilegio a todos sus descendientes varones; Ottavio, nacido el 4 de marzo de 1630, se casó con Giustina Nepote y tuvo cuatro hijos: Francesco y Niccolò
