Celebre casato toscano fiorito nel 1109, il quale diede alla patria 47 priori della libertà, dieci Gonfalonieri della Repubblica di Firenze, ambasciatori, consiglieri, cardinali e governatori. Un Laurent, nel 1530, si stabilì in Lione, ove venne naturalizzato francese, nel 1533, ed ove, il 12 maggio 1554, prese in moglie Hélène de Gadagne. Ivi, tal illustre famiglia, sempre si distinse per gli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Charles, cavaliere dell'Ordine del Re, marito Gabrielle de Tourzel d'alègre, comandante di 260 fanti, nel 1589; due gentiluomini di Camera; dieci capitani di cavalleria; Gaspard, maresciallo di campo, nel 1668, il quale acquistò, il 17 novembre 1658, da Claude-Nicolas Clermont de Chaste, il feudo di St-Just, in Velay. Dai discendenti di Gaspard, la famiglia si divise in due rami: l'uno, unitosi, nel 1672, con il casato dei Charpin, in seguito al matrimonio di Angélique, di Gaspard, con Pierre Hector
