Capostipite di questa illustre famiglia parlamentare friulana, che apparteneva al rango dei liberi, fu D. Enrico di Villalta, di cui per la prima volta parlano i documenti nel 1169. I fratelli Lodovico ed Enrico di Villalta di lui nipoti ex filio, diedero origine, il primo al ramo dei Villalta Uruspergo, spentosi nel secolo XV, il secondo a quello residente nel castello di Villalta, e ad altro propagatosi a Feltre, estintisi ambedue nel se. XVI, e finalmente a quello che nella seconda metà del ducento venne infeudato dal patriarca di Aquileia del castello di Caporiacco e dal quale discendono tutte le diverse famiglie dei conti di Caporiacco. Esercitava questa casa la giurisdizione (garrito) civile e criminale nei castelli e ville omonime di Villalta, Caporiacco, Uruspergo e Invillino e contribuiva in tempo di guerra all'esercito patriarcale con 12 elmi, e cioè 36 cavalli montati da uomini d'arme, e con 4 balestrieri pure
