A very ancient and illustrious family, originally from the territory of L'Aquila, it is however believed that the Cappannella and the Cappa are branches of a single stock. Received in the order of Malta from 1701, it was feuded in the 16th century in Bagno and then in Caporciano, Coppito, Tressio and San Nicandro di Abruzzo. Aggregate to the patriciate of the city of Aquila it enjoyed the honors until the general abolition of the seats. In 1837 it was recognized in its ancient nobility as the fourth of another family in the tests it made for admission into the RR. Bodyguards.
