A família Modena, que uma tradição oral transmitida de pai para filho descende da famosa família de mesmo nome em Florença, ganhou fama graças ao médico Gaetano, que passou por uma brilhante carreira começando nos julgamentos para alcançar o alto grau de secretário íntimo conselheiro de Estado e Ministro de Ser.ma Francesco III Duque de Modena. Em 9 de dezembro de 1765, os conservatórios da cidade de Modena, por aclamação, conferiram a honra do patrício ao ilustre concidadão e ordenaram seu registro, juntamente com a família e os descendentes masculinos em perpetuidade, ao Livro Dourado. Em 6 de novembro de 1779, os anciãos de Reggio concederam a ele e seus descendentes do sexo masculino uma cidadania perpetuamente nobre. Com a resolução de 1 de março de 1816 do Tribunal Heráldico de Modenese, Pietro e Luigi e sua descendência masculina foram inscritos no Livro Dourado de Modena e, alguns anos depois,

Blasone della famiglia Capponi da Firenze, Santo Spirito, Scala; fonte: "Raccolta Ceramelli Papiani" custodita presso l'archivio di stato di Firenze fasc.1209. Note: I primi membri della famiglia nominati cavalieri di Santo Stefano furono Piero e Filippo Capponi nel 1586. Il fascicolo riporta anche uno stemma del Palazzo Pretorio di Poppi, la cui attribuzione ai Capponi è molto dubbia: trinciato, il 1° caricato di un uccello rapace posato sulla linea di partizione. Lo stemma del 3° tipo si trova a Pescia e si riferisce al Magistero degli Ospitalieri di Altopascio, concesso a Nicolò Capponi dal papa Sisto IV e tenuto dalla famiglia tra la seconda metà del XV secolo e la seconda metà del XVI secolo.
