La familia tomó su nombre de la tierra de Capranica. Fue criado por los hermanos Pietro y Angelo cardenal de SRC, Domenico fue elevado a púrpura por Martino V en 1426 y Angelo por Pio II en 1460. Jacopo fue conde de Anguillara y señor de Leprignano en 1431. Paolo fue arzobispo de Benevento en 1435. Angelo obispo de Rieti en 1498. Nicolò obispo de detención en el mismo período. En esta familia se extinguieron dos casas nobles, Cavalieri y del Grillo, ambas galardonadas con el título de Marqués y que traen todos sus títulos y privilegios al hogar de la familia antes mencionada. Angelo en el siglo XV, hermano del cardenal Domenico fue obispo de Ascoli desde 1447 y luego cardenal en Rieti en 1460. Domenico de 1440-1458 fue cardenal y obispo de Fermo, muy activo en la diplomacia y en la guerra. Luigi era de 1844 noble guardia
