Nel secolo decimo quinto la Famiglia Carcano da Milano si è trapiantata nella Città di Vicenza, e come Nobile di Milano venne nella persona di Giovanni Battista, nel 1583, aggregata al cessato Collegio dei nobili signori Notai, nel quale in allora erano riuniti tutti i Nobili della detta Città di Vicenza. Gl'Individui usciti dalla medesima copersero da quell'epoca le cariche che si conferivano a' soli cittadini nobili, come nei tempi recenti il sottonominato Lodovico sostenne quella di Podestà. Coll'eredità conseguita dal fu Conte Lodovico Volpe, il sotto descritto assunse anche il cognome di Volpe, ed il titolo comitale che il Senato Veneto con Decreto 25 settembre 1668 per distinti servigii prestati allo Stato aveva concesso a Giovanni Paolo Volpe, trasmissibile non solo ai di lui figli e discendenti, ma ben anche agli eredi della sua casa. Sua Maestà I. R. A. confermò al sottonominato con Sovrana Risoluzone 8 luglio 1820
