Capostipite di questa illustre ed antica famiglia mantovana fu un Alberto, venuto dalla Baviera ad Arco nel Tirolo. Federico nel 1221 veniva investito dall'imperatore Federico II del titolo comitale e delle signorie di Arco, Tortola, Drena e Spinedo. Oderico nel 1301 contribuiva a stabilire la pace fra i duchi di Carinzia, gli Scaligeri ed i Bonaccolsi, signori di Mantova. Giambattista fu consigliere attuale intimo di Stato per aulico decreto 28 febbraio 1791 e dalla marchesa Matilde di Canossa ebbe Francesco, I. R. ciambellano nel 1793, marito di Amalisa Sanvitale, riconosciuto nell'antica nobiltà e nel titolo comitale con sovrana risoluzione del 1817. La famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale col titolo di "conte del S. R. I." per m. Cfr. A. S. M. Araldica.
