La famille est originaire d'Imola et s'est installée à Rome depuis plus de cinq siècles. Les membres de la famille ont servi la cour pontificale, occupant diverses fonctions très importantes. De nombreuses personnalités de cette maison sont rappelées comme secrétaires apostoliques, minutants, officiers de la Dataria, et dans le document de 1843, elles sont déjà appelées nobles. La famille compte parmi les 60 conscrits et porte le titre de comte. Au XVIe siècle, elle avait deux conservateurs : Cola en 1429 et Giuliano en 1452. Un Pietro Paolo, chanoine du Latran, était ambassadeur auprès du roi de France ; Giovanni Pietro, en 1556, lors de l'exposition générale des Romains réunis sur le terrain, présenta 6000 hommes, dont des hallebardiers et des arquebusiers. La famille est inscrite sur la Liste Officielle en la personne de Francesco Saverio, cav. Enfiler. et dév. de la SMO de Malte, sp. à Antonia des barreaux.
