Ancienne famille, avec résidence dans la ville de Leonforte. Un Giuseppe était comte de la vallée du Giunchi (1785), titre converti plus tard en celui de comte du Mandre, dont le fils dudit Giuseppe, Francesco Paolo, obtint l'investiture le 17 janvier 1808. Avec le décret royal 2-22 En mars 1906, M. Basilio, di Daniele, obtient le renouvellement du titre de baron de San Giuseppe (mpr). Dans le Livre d'or de la noblesse italienne est également inscrit Hercule, frère dudit baron Basilio. De plus, la présence de la devise dans la bibliographie documentée de la famille confirme la noblesse ancestrale de la famille. Devise familiale : Bene docet. Les premières nouvelles de la famille Carella à Francavilla remontent à la deuxième décennie du XVIIe siècle.
