A antiga zona rural de Acquosana, entre Tanaro, Belbo, Asti e a futura Alexandria, era nos séculos XII e XIII o feudo de um consórcio, constituído por cerca de sessenta famílias, todos descendentes dos condados de Acquosana em Manfredinghi; destes originaram os senhores de Lanerio, Magliano, Alice Belcolle, Castelnuovo Calcea, S. Stefano Belbo e os senhores acima mencionados de Magliano i Carena. Parte do território ao longo do curso do Tanaro dividia, em dois, os domínios dos marquês de Monferrato que aspiravam a se juntar, de modo que as contagens se aliavam ao povo asti ou aos alexandrinos para contrastar os objetivos do vizinho que os mantinha perto dos lados; com o advento e a expansão dos municípios, no entanto, Asti e Alexandria também pressionavam para anexar aquele campo em vassalagem, cujos senhores feudais, em vez de se submeterem a seus agressores, abandonaram as terras que haviam sofrido após sofrerem
