Da antiche memorie si conosce, che fin dal secolo decimoterzo abitava in Verona la famiglia prima detta A Violis secondo il Campione dell'Estimo, o a Miolis secondo un ms. Torresani, e poi C. da uno di nome Carlotto, originaria dalla charissima stirpe detta Di Garda. Nel suddetto Campione dell'Estimo di Verona all'anno 1409 si legge: Carlotus ed Andreas fr. q. Gajardi a Violis de s. Michaele ad portas. I registri del Nob. Consiglio ricordano all'anno 1407 un Carlotto A Miolis. Nel 1480 un Andrea C. o di Carlotto a nome della Veneta Repubblica presedeva alla Riviera el Benaco. Questa carica alcuni anni dopo divenne la più illustre delle estrinseche, cioè della provincia, sotto il titolo di Capitano del Lago. Ne' tempi posteriori un secondo Andrea fu Commendatore del Sacro Militare Ordine di s. Stefano di Toscana, ed Alessandro fu decorato della Croce di s. Giovanni Gerosolimitano.
