È un ramo dei Visconti, ascritto agli alberghi dei Marri e Serra ed all'altro di Usodimare. Tre furono consoli del comune e quattro dei placiti. Giona nel 1157 giurò le convenzioni col Re di Sicilia e nel 1188 la pace fra Genova e Pisa; Baldicione acquistò una nobile terra in Cogorno, e fu ambasciatore a Federigo Barbarossa. Poche sono le città, che vantino famiglie nobili si antiche come quelle in Genova, poichè malgrado le vicende dei tempi essa conta ancora nel suo seno molte famiglie che provano la loro genealogia da padre in figlio mercè gli atti notarili dalla metà del XII secolo fino a' giorni nostri, vale a dire da un'epoca che serva di barriera a quasi tutte le famiglie d'Europa. Ma se ci mancono i rogiti anteriori a quelli di Giovanni Scriba dell'anno 1150, e di Lanfranco Lotaro del 1180, onde accrescere più gradi di nobiltà di
