Capostipite di questa famiglia è un Bartolomeo Carminati esule dalla Valle Brambilla nel Bergamasco nel 1443 per ordine della Serenissima. Fu bisavo di Giovanni Francesco (deceduto1599), deputato della Fabbrica del Duomo nel 1577, il quale alla sua volta fu nonno di Carlo (1606-1663), capitano della Milizia Urbana. Da Giulio Cesare (1632-1673) nacque Gerolamo (1658-1699), giureconsulto, pretore di Vigogna e di Lesa, padre di altro Giulio Cesare (1685-1755), ammesso al, patriziato milanese nel 1721, dei XII di provvisione nel 1522. Dallo zio materno Fabio Mangino ereditò una primogenitura, dalla quale facevano parte l'avita casa posta in Milano in via di Brera e la villa di Castellana vicino a Legnano. Fu bisavo di Giuseppe (1814-1887), marito di Paola Roero dei conti di Settime e di Teresa andata in sposa nel 1847 al conte Lorenzo Sormani Andreani. Da Giuseppe nacque Giulio (1837-1919), Gran Cacciatore di S. M. il Re, decorato della medaglia
