Antica famiglia siciliana, originariamente detta Carmo, la quale, però, trae origine dalla Sardegna, da donde passò, primieramente, in Piemonte e, sicuramente anteriormente al XIV secolo, si spostò in Francia, dal momento che in Savoia rinveniamo la presenza di un Alain, con la qualifica di cavaliere, scomparso nel 1364. Al dir di illustri genealogisti, è proprio in terra francese che si ebbe la modificazione del cognome, probabilmente a causa di fenomeni di fonetica dialettale e/o ad errori di tradizione manoscritta, il quale da "Carmo" divenne "Carmou" e, infine, l'attuale "Carmoz". Nel corso dei secoli, inoltre, i membri della famiglia Carmoz, si rinvengono sparsi in numerose regioni italiane e francesi. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Cav. Saverio, il quale, sotto i vessilli del "Conte Rosso", ovvero Amedeo VII, alla conquista, nel 1388, di uno sbocco al mare con Nizza, uno dei capisaldi del potere della Casa Savoia
