Ritroviamo assai antica, e nobile la famiglia Caro in Italia, e principalmente in Roma, da un ramo detto Caro derivò quel chiarissimo Poeta Annibale, e parimente nei Regni di Napoli, perciò nei Baroni del Monte Cavioso, che andarono, e contribuirono nel servigio militare, che si fece nel tempo del Re Buon Guglielmo, va notato Guglielmo Caro, che portò con esso 18 soldati, e 20 servienti. Visse anche nel tempo di Enrico VI un cavaliere chiamato Giovanni, che ebbe da quell'imperatore il governo della città dell'Aquila, mentre sotto il Re Manfredo fiorirono Luigi e Guglielmo cavalieri in Barletta. Palmerino fu uno dei rubbelli del Re Carlo, che seguì il Re Corradino in quelle bellicose turbolenze, ed andò per questo molti anni or quinci, or quandi vagando, finché venne il Re Pietro d'Aragona in Sicilia, ai servigi del quale egli in Sicilia s'impiegò, insieme con suo figlio Luigi, ebbe la Castellania di
