Antica e nobile famiglia, di chiara ed avita virtù, originaria di Lucera, dove ebbe le 60 some di territorio, solite a darsi ai nobili di sangue. Ha posseduto alcuni feudi, ha vestito l'abito di Malta ed ha goduto del titolo di duca di San Nicandro. Altro ramo. Antica famiglia di Solofra, le cui notizie rimontano alla metà del XIV secolo, quando si incontra Niccolò, tra i solofrani che parteciparono alle rivolte del Trecento solofrano. Nel XV secolo la famiglia abitava in località Canale. La illustrarono i notai Carlo (1458) e Ottaviano (1480), il quale fu presente per molto tempo a Solofra col suo studio. Alcuni membri, poi, rappresentarono la Universitas: Antonio, Sabato e Marco. Nel XVI secolo la famiglia La famiglia si impiantò nel casale Fontane sottane, sviluppatosi intorno ad essa perfino con una cappella privata, quella di S. Lucia, fondata da Mazzeo e tenuta da Ettore, Carlo e Lorenzo,
