Tra le più nobili ed antiche famiglie della Castiglia, resasi storicamente memorabile, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in Europa e nelle Americhe. Leggenda vuole che essa abbia avuto origine nel XIII secolo da due fratelli, forse di origine francese, forse germanica, che rifugiarono in Spagna, chiedendo la protezione del Conte di Castiglia Fernán González di Castiglia, dopo essersi resi rei di omicidio in un duello amoroso. Tanta fu la loro gratitudine che dedicarono la propria vita a servire il loro nuovo paese e giurarono fedeltà alla monarchia di Spagna. Si dice che molti descrivessero i fratelli come "los carillons de la iglesia" poiché erano sempre insieme e attiravano l'attenzione su di sé grazie alle loro opere devote alla Corona e alla Chiesa.
