Famiglia originaria del regno di Valenza, trapiantata in Sardegna fin dal tempo della conquista di quest'isola fatta nel 1323 dell'infante D. Alfonso figlio di Giacomo II d'Aragona. Francesco Ammiraglio della flotta aragonese, e governatore generale dell'isola nel 1325 ebbe, in rimunerazione de' suoi servigi, molte concessioni di feudi in Sardegna. Berengario conte di Quirra fu per due volte vicerè dell'isola nel 1410 e 1415. A partire dal 1363 ne era andato allargando i confini, infatti aveva acquistato dal fisco il feudo di Baratuli, dai Quiterano, quello di Castiadas, dagli Alomar quelli di Mara e Galbisa, dai Martinez de Corasta il feudo di Solanas, dai Cabrera quelli di Serrenti e Pauli, dai Ladrera quelli di Flumini e Corongiu. Non ebbe figli maschi, sua figlia Violante nel 1380 sposò Ponzio Senesterra e in segreto Berengario Bertran facendo passare la contea in quella famiglia.
