Die Familie Casale ist sehr alt und edel, deutscher Herkunft, benannt nach einem Ort in den Bergen bei Cortona namens Casale, dessen Herrschaft sie hatte. Ein Rinaldo lebte 1150 in Cortona, dessen Bürger er wurde. Von ihm stammten sieben Fürsten ab, die diese Stadt etwa ein Jahrhundert lang mit dem Titel eines kaiserlichen Vikars beherrschten, und der letzte davon war Luigi-Battista, der 1420 in Casteluovo di Napoli nach elf Jahren schwerer Inhaftierung starb und ihn unter König Ladislao leiden ließ der Cortona erobert und an die Florentiner Republik verkauft hatte. Mit ihm starb dieses berühmte Haus, das berühmte Männer für Einfallsreichtum, militärischen Wert und anhaltende Positionen hatte. Uguccio war 1258 Hauptmann des Volkes, als Cortona von den Aretini eingenommen wurde. 1260 kämpfte er mit den Sienesern an den Ufern der Arbia und wurde 1265 von seinen Mitbürgern des Landes gegründet.
