Ancienne famille ligurienne, de vertu claire et ancestrale, connue sous le nom de Casaretto, Casareto ou Casarotti, originaire de Chiavari mais passée à Gênes avec un Antonio, en 1477, puis s'est répandue au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. De plus, cette famille, au fil des décennies, a toujours réussi à produire une série d'hommes qui ont fait sa renommée, dans la fonction publique, dans les professions libérales et ecclésiastiques et dans le service militaire. Parmi ceux-ci, sans rien enlever à la valeur des omissions, comptez : Antonio et Mario qui, en 1528, étaient enrôlés dans les Centurions ; Pietro, propriétaire terrien, florissant en 1548 ; Giacomo, docteur des deux lois, florissant à Gênes, en 1592 ; le P. Alessandro, de l'Ordre des Mineurs Réformés, florissant à Gênes, en 1603 ; Benedetto, militaire de profession, florissant en 1616 ; D. Carlo, protonotaire apostolique en France, florissant en 1625 ;
