Francesco C. gentil'huomo Catalano fù uno de' primi Giuristi del suo tempo, perloche fù eletto dal Rè Martino suo Consigliero, e Thesoriero del Regno, dal quale hebbe anche potestà di poter rimettere le persone rubbelle, e restituirle i beni confiscati, e particolarmente all'Infatessa donna Leonora d'Aragona, ed al Conte Matteo Peralta suo figlio nel 1396, e per questi, ed altri serviggi acquistò pure dal medesmo Rè la Baronia di Solanto nel 1402, e Nicolò suo figlio la Terra di Giarratana nel medesmo anno. Hebbe il predetto Francesco per moglie la figlie di Giaime Michele Casanova cavaliero Aragonese, che gli morì in tempo, ch'egli acquistò la predetta Baronia di Solanto. Il Castello, Feudo, e Tonnara di Solanto furono anticamente dal Rè Federico III concessi à Manfredo la Cabica nel 1365, che gli seguì suo figlio Antonio, dal quale il Rè Martino rimovendogli gli concesse al predetto Francesco C., ouer Casasaia gentil'huomo
