Dos familias Caselli muy nobles florecieron en Módena, ambas citadas por la Crónica Spaccini e incluidas por Crollalanza en los volúmenes de su famoso "Diccionario histórico-blasónico de familias nobles y notables italianas vol. I". Cane y Albertino eran de los años cincuenta del Asino en 1314 cuando la familia Este fue expulsada de Módena, por lo que también corrieron la misma suerte. La familia luego regresó a su tierra natal encontrando rastros de ella en los siglos siguientes. En particular, sus integrantes se dedicaron a la práctica de la abogacía. Recordamos: Alessandro, doctor en ambas leyes, floreciente en 1598; Pietro Giacomo, doctor de ambas leyes, floreciente en 1626; Edoardo Maria, jurista, floreciente en 1672; Tommaso, jurista, floreciente en 1689. Del análisis cromático y simbólico del escudo podemos finalmente obtener algunos datos importantes sobre las virtudes asociadas a este apellido.
