L'existence de cette famille en plusieurs régions françaises dès le XIIIème siècle est constatéee par diverses chartes de ce temps et par nombreux témoignages publics des plus respectables, entre autres par M. Boullainvilliers qui, dans son 'Etat de la France', la met au rang des principales maisons de cette généralité; par une enquête juridique de l'année 1517. Elle se trouve aussi mentionnée dans l'état des familles nobles de Gasconne qui ont fourni des gentilshommes aux bans et arrière-bans des années 1513, 1637 et 1694. Parmi les membres les plus célèbres de cette famille on remarque: César, anobli en 1356; dix chanoines-comtes de Brioude dès 1312 à 1548; Pierre, témoin d'une cession faite par Guy de Malaval à la collégiale; François, chevalier de l'ordre du Roi en 1612.
