The family is said to have descended from the Roman Cassia gens. Ovid, considered by some to be the son of Syrian Heliodorus, rector in Rome and secretary of the emperor Hadrian, was a Roman general and 165 years after Christ won the Parthians, conquered and destroyed Clesifonte and Seleucia; in 175 he rebelled making himself acclaimed emperor but after a few months he was killed by his soldiers. Giovanni, Roman jurisconsult consul of Sweden and Norway, following the marriage with the noble Carolina Marianecci, purchased goods in Civitalavinia and hosted in his palace the supreme pontiff Gregory XVI, an event remembered with a plaque. Giovanni died on September 6, 1841 and was buried in the church of SS. Crucifix in Nemi. His son Anchise in 1843 was admitted among the nobles of Città della Pieve.
