Diz-se que a família descende das gens romanas da Cássia. Ovídio, considerado por alguns como filho de Heliodoro sírio, reitor em Roma e secretário do imperador Adriano, era um general romano e 165 anos depois que Cristo venceu os partos, conquistou e destruiu Clesifonte e Selêucia; em 175 ele se rebelou, tornando-se imperador aclamado, mas depois de alguns meses ele foi morto por seus soldados. Giovanni, cônsul do tribunal romano da Suécia e da Noruega, após o casamento com a nobre Carolina Marianecci, comprou mercadorias em Civitalavinia e hospedou em seu palácio o sumo pontífice Gregório XVI, um evento lembrado com uma placa. Giovanni morreu em 6 de setembro de 1841 e foi enterrado na igreja da SS. Crucifixo em Nemi. Seu filho Anchise, em 1843, foi admitido entre os nobres de Città della Pieve.
