Familia noble de Liguria, traída a Sicilia, antes del siglo XV. El primer personaje que le perteneció, del cual hay cierta información, es un Niccolò, tesorero general del reino, quien, el 16 de enero de 1397, otorgó la tierra de Saponara; en 1399 confirmó las aldeas de Bavuso, Calvaruso, Mauro-giovanni y S. Andrea; el 10 de enero de 1401 el feudo de Graniti y Mangiavacche. A Giovanni también era dueño del feudo de Cutò, en el que fue sucedido por su hija Granata, esposa de Arnaldo Spatafora. Otra rama Familia florecida, en el siglo XVII, en Nicosia, Messina y Enna. Con el título de Barón de Castaño como descendiente de Luigi (1809), Enrico, Francesco, Luigi se inscribió. Hermanos: Giovanni y Vincenzo. Con el título de Nobile dei Baroni di Castagna como descendiente de Francesco (1782), Nicolò, Giuseppe, Francesco se inscribió. Niños: Maria Gaetana, Maria Grazia, Giuseppe, Mariano, Francesco y Elisabetta.
