Antichissima e nobilissima famiglia toscana derivata dai Vitozzi di Basco, trasse il nome da Castellottieri, feudo di sua proprietà sul quale aveva il titolo comitale che alzò per arma: D'argento, al monte di cinque cime d'oro, sormontato da un'aquila di rosso, coronata d'oro. . Detta Ottieri o Castellottieri ha posseduto anche il castello di Montorio, e dal Granduca ottenne il marchesato di Rigomagno con diploma 21 Giu. 1616. Era stata ascritta alla nobiltà senese nel 1510, ed il conte Guido del conte Gio. Maria fu il primo risieduto tra i governatori della Repubblica nel 1511. Furono vescovi di Chiusi Sinolfo nel 1497, e Bonifazio nel 1503. Sigismondo fu condottiero di lance contro la Lega dei Veneziani nel 1409; Flaminio ed Orazio cavalieri di S. Stefano nel 1582. Guido ebbe grandi contese colla Repubblica Senese negli ultimi anni del XV secolo perchè favoriva la Repubblica Fiorentina dalla quale ebbe
