Esta família normanda veio ao Reino seguindo Roberto Guiscardo. Foi chamado pela primeira vez de Letti ou Leto pelo feudo de Castel Letti, e depois Castelluccia ou Castellucci e Pappasiderio pela posse dos feudos desse nome. Dizia-se que o sobrenome Alitto era preservado pelos descendentes, e se pretendia que fossem chamados a usar as asas no brasão de armas.Esta família desfrutava de nobreza na Sicília e nas cidades de Bitonto, Chieti, Sulmona, Bisignano, Tropea Castelluccia e Diano, onde uma filial se estabeleceu por volta de 1600. O ramo Bitonto tornou-se extinto em dois homens e uma mulher casada com a família Giannone, com o acordo de que o noivo e seus descendentes deveriam acrescentar d'Alitto ao sobrenome.
