It is not known for certain what the origin of this family is, supposing some that it comes from the one of the White Castles, of Spain, of the Kingdom of Aragon. The first one who seems to have used the nickname in Portugal is Martim de C.-Branco, who lived in the 1255s in the village of C. Branco, in the time of D. Afonso III, from whom those with the the same surname later inhabited the same village and spread from it to the Kingdom. Of the barons of São Pedro: descendant family, by legitimate varony, of António Ribeiro da Cunha (son of Pedro Gonçalves and Maria Ribeiro) and his wife Rosa Ferreira who were parents of Manuel-José Ribeiro da Cunha married in S.ta Eulália de Barrosas, Lousada, 14.1.1759, with Ana-Maria Ribeiro, daughter of Custódio Alves and wife Mariana Ribeiro. That couple n. to 27.1.1772, in the same fr., Francisco Ribeiro da Cunha who came to live in Lisbon, in freg. da Madalena, where c. to 25.1.1799 with Maria-Inácia Ferreira Dias, bapt. in freg. de S. Sebastião de Guimarães, daughter of Manuel-José Dias and wife Eduarda-Maria Ferreira, having n. in freg. da Madalena, Lisbon, on 10.3.1805, his son José Ribeiro da Cunha who came to marry in this same freg. to 1.1.1849, with D. Maria-Carlota de Paiva, bapt. in freg. de N.ª Sr.ª da Conceição, Lisbon, daughter of António-Manuel de Paiva and wife D. Inácio-Delfina. José Ribeiro da Cunha, son of the previous ones, n. in freg. da Madalena, Lisbon, 5.12.1853 and f. in Lisbon on 14.5.1915.
