Famiglia originaria della Spagna, che fu trapiantata in Messina, nel secolo XVIII detta Castiglia o del Castillo alzò per arme del casato: Di rosso, alla torre d'argento. L'avita nobiltà della famiglia Castiglia o del Castillo è confermata dalla presenza del blasone nei più autorevoli armoriali d'Italia. La nobile famiglia, originaria di Castiglia, fu portata in Sicilia da un Baldassare, che fu sergente maggiore del terzo spagnuolo, senatore di Palermo nel 1589-90, proconservatore di Gangi nel 1591. Dei suoi figli: Melchiorre fu cavaliere di Malta; Gaspare abbate di Roccadia; giovan Francesco giudice pretoriano, del concistoro e della Gran Corte ed uditore generale degli eserciti e fu autore di molti lavori giuridici; Diego sposò Caterina Grassini ereditiera dei feudi di Vacco e Vaccotto sui quali ottenne, morto il marito, il titolo di marchese di S. Isidoro con privilegio dato a 11 luglio 1651 esecutoriato a 15 settembre dello stesso anno. Altro
