Famiglia delle più antiche e cospicue di Milano, iscritta nella matricola di Ottone Visconti, che ha per capostitpite certo Corrado (dec. 1280), podestà di Tortona, già partigiano de' Torriani, nella cui famiglia aveva collocato una figlia sua, Giulia, andata sposa a Francesco della Torre ucciso nel 1277 nella battaglia di Desio: passò poi alla parte viscontea per riaccostarsi poi ai Torriani. Da Albertone, figlio di lui, trassero origine i conti di Binago, ai quali appartenne Giannotto (dec. 1571) eletto nel 1565 da Pio IV gran maestro dell'Ordine di S. Lazzaro, estinti nel secolo XVII ed i marchesi di Castiglione e signori di Pessano. Di questo ramo é Branda (dec. 1499) che nel 1489 fu ambasciatore ducale ai fiorentini e che nel 1496 ebbe da Lodovico il Moro il feudo di Pessano; fu padre di Gerolamo (dec. 1528), presidente del Senato ed avo di Francesco Abbondio, vescovo di Bobbio e nel
