De la villa de Castrogeriz, provincia de Burgos y uno de los cinco linajes más antiguos, juntamente con los de Lara, Guzmán y Villamayor, que se derivan de sus primitivos Reyes. El primero que usó apellido el nombre del gran Solar de C., fue el Conde don Fernán Ruiz, que vicía pro los años 1095, casado con Doña María, Señora de Castrogeriz, hija de Pedro Ansúrez, señor de Valladolid y padre, en ella, del Conde Don Guitierre Fernández de C., Ricohombre, Señor de las ciudades de Burgos y Soria y de Castrogeriz, Mayordomo Mayor de los Reyes Don Alonso VII y Don Sancho III, Ayo y Tutor de Rey Don Alonso VIII y uno de los magnetes más afamados de su tiempo. A este linaje pertenecieron también Don Guetierrez Ruiz de C., "el Descalabrado"; don Fernando Ruiz de C., "el Castellano"; Don Fernán Gutiérrez de C.,
