E' assai chiara nella felice città di Palermo la famiglia C. per gl'huomini illustri di lettere, e d'arme e per i molti supremi carichi, che ella have havuto. Il suo progenitore fù Puccio del C. cavalier Castigliano, che venne militando a' serviggi del Rè Federico II, dal quale n'hebbe alcune rendite sopra l'università di Palermo, ove procreò Matteo,che fù padre di Giacomo, ed ambedue furono promossi ne' maggiori uffici di quella. Il predetto Giacomo hebbe dal Rè Martino la metà dell'Olivito, grande nel territorio di Palermo nel 1398, e pure la scannaria di Palermo. Procreò egli à Matteo, che nel 1411 fù Giurato della sua Patria, insieme con Francesco di Bianco, Bartolomeo di Cratiano, Simone Paruta, e Gullo Gratiano, nel seguente anno 1412 il predetto suo padre Giacomo con Andrea di Monaco, Nicolò di Robberto, Matteo di Milana, Francesco Ventimiglia, e Nicolò Sanguigno.
