Famiglia che si crede d'origine spagnuola. Passò prima in Sicilia e quindi a S. Marco Argentano dove nel 1666 Andrea sposò Diana Gonzaga, discendente di quel Carlo, del ramo dei conti di Novellara, che si trasferì in Calabria al seguito del principe di Bisignano dopo la congiura dei baroni, ed ivi stabilito si visse sempre egli ed i suoi discendenti in familiarità con la casa Sanseverino, dalla quale ebbe cariche importanti ed entrate feudali. Per tale matrimonio la famiglia aggiunse al proprio il cognome Gonzaga. Nel 1616 fu concesso il titolo di duca a Francesco Maria col diritto d'imporlo sopra un feudo, e fu infatti riconosciuto su quello di Cirella. Oltre questo, possedettero i feudi nobili di Maierà e Grisola, del predicato dei quali ottennero anche il riconoscimento. E per successione di casa Rossi pretendono i predicati di Castro, Marittima e Spongano. E' rappresentata questa famiglia da Arturo, di Gaetano,
