Familia antigua e ilustre, que gozaba de nobleza en Nicosia en Messina, en Palermo, en Siracusa. En 1398 un Giovanni ocupó el cargo de vice-castillo de Nicosia; Gabriel fue juez de la gran corte del reino (1683-1689-1699), abogado fiscal de la corte de R. Patrimonio (1706); un Niccolò obtuvo el 7 de octubre de 1702 el título de barón de Cancilleri; Diego fue capitán de justicia de Siracusa en 1704-5 y 1709-10; un Antonino el 9 de mayo de 1746 tenía investidura de la baronía de Aira del Conte y Oliveto y era conservador de Buccheri (1755-1758-1774), cargo que ocupó en 1776 su hijo el barón Giuseppe, quien compró el mercado Melilli y lo invirtieron el 19 de marzo de 1776; un Carlo era un juez pretoriano de Palermo (1746-47), un abogado fiscal para la audiencia general real, un auditor general de ejércitos, un Niccolò era un senador de Palermo
