Família Treviso antiga e muito nobre, de virtude clara e ancestral, também conhecida como De Cataldis, que se mudou para Messina no século XV e, posteriormente, se espalhou por todo o Reino de Nápoles. A origem dessa cognominação pode ser encontrada no xará pessoal, provavelmente pertencente ao progenitor, cuja gênese ocorreu em território gaélico ou germânico e cujo significado é interpretado como "valente na batalha". A casa sempre se destacou pela alteza dos personagens a que deu à luz. Entre eles, sem elevar o valor dos omitidos, lembramos: Matteo, jurado de Mazzara em 1419-20; P. Angelo, doutor em Teologia Sagrada, florescendo em Nápoles no século XV; Giovanni, senador de Catania em 1492-93 e em 1500-501; Giuseppe, juiz Straticoziale de Messina em 1576-77; Gioacchino, de Messina, que, com privilégio concedido em 30 de setembro de 1518, executado em 14 de janeiro de 1519, obteve o título de cavaleiro real.
