It is said to be of Norman origin. A Guglielmo de Aceto, son of Recco, had Palermitan citizenship in 1312, who in 1332 occupied the excellent position of praetor of Palermo. A Niccolò de Aceto, from Pietro, in 1500 was appointed Vicar General of Troina where he transplanted his family. A Cesare de Aceto was Troina's captain of justice in 1692 and 1695; a Roberto Maria de Aceto obtained a certificate of nobility from the Senate of Palermo on 12 May 1760 and purchased the Baronia of Casalcarbone, which was invested on 27 September 1764. Francesco de Aceto and Ansaldo, son of the previous one, were the first to join the surname de Aceto that of Catani or Cattani, and the said Frnacesco obtained the investiture of the Barony of Casalcarbone on 30 April 1789.
