Famiglia Torinese. Giuseppe Antonio, di Giuseppe, baccelliere in Torino, fu padre di Ignazio Modesto, padre a sua volta di Gregorio Modesto da cui procede la linea comitale, e di Giuseppe Modesto da cui origina la linea baronale. Casimiro Modesto (nato 25 dicembre dell'anno 1794, deceduto Torino, 6 maggio 1867), di Gregorio Modesto, sostituto avvocato fiscale generale nel consiglio di Sardegna, quindi consigliere nel 1831, in seguito alla fondazione di un maggiorasco di L. 200 mila fu creato conte di Confiengo il 12 dicembre 1837. Fu suo figlio Edoardo (n. Torino 18 agosto 1839, dec. ivi, 27 agosto 1899), ufficiale di cavalleria da cui nacque il 2 aprile 1891 il figlio barone Roberto. Altro ramo.
