Ancient subalpine family, of clearly and ancestral virtues, sort from the union, by marriage, of two famous and historical dynasties. The first, said Cavaglia or Cavaglià, is an ancient noble family of the Counts of Cavaglià, divided into numerous branches with the titles of: Counts of Cavaglià; Lords of Alice, Andorno and Bioglio, Caresana, Casanova, Frassineto, Montosolo, Roppolo, Ticineto, Valmacca; consignors of Borgaro Torinese. The medievalist erudite Ferdinando Gabotto makes this family derive from Count Aimone of Vercelli (already + 987). The members of this illustrious family, in 1173 declared themselves vassals of the bishop of Vercelli and were certainly involved in the conflict between the municipalities of Vercelli and Ivrea, which lasted from 1221 to 1231, and probably sided with Ivrea.
