Ancient noble family of Liguria, originally called Cazella, established in the castle of the same name in that of Montoggio as early as the 12th century, it has been known since 1173, when a member of the family was among the signatories of a treaty of alliance with the Marquis of Massa ; progenitor was Ansaldus, of which there is documented information from 1185. The family, which enjoyed nobility since ancient times, then came to live in Genoa from Rapallo in the year 1360; was a house of shipowners, soldiers and clergymen, gave the Church two bishops and always participated in the government of the republic. Corrado was Elder in 1368; John in 1386, 1394, 1404; Luchino in 1397. Numerous others had the same office and other conspicuous offices in the fifteenth century; Batta, in 1494, was ambassador of the Republic to the Duke Ludovico of Milan; Bernardo in 1506,
