Con base en la tradición doméstica, los miembros de la familia afirman haber venido de Arona, de donde un Cecco los habría traído a Cesena, que dio su nombre a la familia (Cecco d'Arona); pero parece más probable que se haya mudado a la ciudad desde Sant'Egidio, un lugar en el área de Cesena. Goza del patriciado de Cesena (m.) Habiendo ocupado durante mucho tiempo una sede del consejo del municipio, y la de S. Marino (m.), Por concesión del Príncipe Consejo de la República a Carlo, Giovanni y Lodovico di Giulio, el 13 de julio de 1760. Del primero de estos tres hermanos, Pier Domenico nació en 1757, con cuyos hijos Carlo (n. 1797) y Fabrizio (n. 1800) la casa se dividió en dos ramas.
